Today, the 22nd of September marks the Autumn Equinox, which marks the official start of the autumn season. I love all the seasons, but autumn has to be my absolute favourite, I even got married in the autumn because I love it that much. As much as embrace being outside, especially when the sun is shining, casting its long shadows and golden light, cosying up inside is almost a full time hobby. I’ve spent the last few weeks in the house rearranging my favourite pieces from notonthehighstreet and thought I’d share with you some of my most treasured pieces from the site’s sellers.
Candles
Candles, for autumn? Groundbreaking. There’s no quicker way to embrace that autumn glow indoors than lighting a candle…or three. Tapered candles are available in so many different colours, it’s an easy way to test out a new colour scheme in your home. There’s twisted candles, painted candles, tie dye candles, and even candles with hand written messages on. Pair them with some candle holders in complimentary colours and you’re good to go, I love these flower holders or for an elegant statement choose these blown glass holders.
Candle Accessories
Candles need accessories? Yes they do, stay with me. I have what I like to call ‘candle stations’ in my house, which is where a candle sits with matches so it’s easy to actual light them instead of collecting dust (have you ever tried to dust a candle, near impossible). These coloured scalloped placemats really make an occasion out of them, and are available in ten different colours. I currently have them in light pink, dark green and sage. Prints
I feel like prints really make a room a home. There’s so many wonderful prints available, it’s hard to know where to start. I love Telegramme’s prints, they have a retro inspired feel and you can also personalise quite a few of them. Another seller called House of Hooray also has personalised options for names but also colour options too, to get that perfect match to your decor. Annie Dornan-Smith is always a great choice for prints, I have a few of her designs in the house alongside Basil & Ford, who screen print over vintage illustrations.
Ceramics
You may or may not know, I am on a mug ban. Because I just cannot get enough of mugs, tea cups and saucers and any vessel that you can drink tea out of. But every now and again, another one slips the net and finds it way onto my mug tree, Ajouter store is one of my go to sellers for vessels for tea. I love this floral one, and next on my wish list is this gingham set. I have open shelving in my kitchen, which means a lot of my homewares double as decorative items, so glasses are also a bit of an achilles heel for me. I adore these statement confetti glasses, they are so unique, and I’m also a big fan of combining rattan with glassware with these woven tumblers.
Bed & Table Linen
Autumn is the perfect excuse to spend more time in bed, maybe an afternoon film under the sheets or an extra half an hour with your much loved book. Investing in bed linen is such a treat, and I love Linen Me’s selection of sheets. They wash beautifully, and feel so nice, I also highly recommend their tea towels too. I have paired mine with mismatching pillow cases from Poppy & Honesty, the mustard gingham check combined with my favourite Liberty florals give the perfect nod to autumn.
Whilst you’re visiting Poppy & Honesty, take a look at their table linen. Add a pop of stripes, with the napkins or go all in with their matching tablecloth, I also use this as a picnic blanket in the summer, or why not go for a cosy autumnal picnic with hot chocolate.
Paper Flowers
We are entering the end of the growing season, Dahlias are the last burst of colour we are going to see in the garden for a while. Dried flowers are a really great option for the colder months, and paper flowers give a real burst of colour, and don’t require any attention whatsoever or change of water. Pair with a colourful vase for floral brights all season long.
