Favourite Photo and Film Editing Apps

I use my phone to create a lot of content, and edit it too. I thought I’d share my most used apps to help me create both photo and video content for work.

Splice

This is the video editing app I use to make both TikToks and Reels. I have used iMovie and Adobe Premier before, which one is best? Whichever gets the job done, I love the simple interface on this app, you select the mode you want to edit for and I generally trim things, delete and drag to reorder. I find it helps me edit videos in minutes, and they have their own music library for royalty free music too. It’s available on both Apple and Android.

Filmm App

Whilst I use splice to edit my videos, sometimes they just need a little something extra, this is where Filmm comes in. You can lighten, alter the contrast, and things like the photo temperature on Filmm more inline with how you might edit an image for Instagram. I also like the effects they have, including retro film packs, light filters, and film texture. I often use the royalty free music from Filmm too as they have a nicely curated short list to choose from. The team from A Beautiful Mess also make the Template app and A Color Story. Filmm is available on both Apple and Android.

VSCO

This is how I edit all my photos and have done for years. I should probably venture out and learn Ligtroom, maybe 2022 is the year I do it, but for mobile publishing it’s more than enough (I even use it for blog photos). It can do all the usual lightening, change the contrast and has filters which I use to get a consistent look and feel for my Instagram. I mainly use the E filters, and occasionally set over into G after being a loyal C fan for years. It’s available on both Apple and Android.

UNUM

I use a grid planner for my Instagram, and this is the one I get on with the best. I know other people like other apps, it’s worth trying a few and seeing what works for you. You can plan video and static content in here and see how your overall grid will look in advance of publishing. It’s available on both Apple and Android.

Unfold

This is what I use to create interesting Instagram story frames, if you’re ever looking to change up your content or add some features of interests, Unfold has lots of templates and it’s really easy to layout both images and video content. Once created in the app it’s really easy to go in and edit and download individual stories to your phone, I like that it stores everything in projects too. It’s available on both Apple and Android.

Lens Buddy

And finally, but by no means least. This is a really helpful for taking photos on a timer, I know your phone can do that already but I find it really clunky doing it directly through the camera on my iPhone. This app is really useful for that, so grab that tripod and off you go! Unfortunately it is currently only available for Apple.

Not that I need another monthly app subscription, but let me know if there any apps you love for creating content in the comments.
